It is a bit of a countdown, every single year really, and this Saturday it’s finally happening: we’ll take that 2 hours ride to Baarlo so we can pick the Limburgse morellen (sour cherries) ourselves. Everything IS better in the south.
However, picking the sour cherries is just the beginning: the real fun will go on for a week or so. My plan is always the same: make as much slatko, jam, lemonade, pickle and višnjevača as possible. (Note to self: order a cherry pitter for once.)
BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY: YOU’RE IN FOR A TREAT!!
Stop by @kookboekhandel (Haarlemmerdijk 133) on Saturday, July 5th, from 14:00 onwards and you’ll get to try my favorite sour cherry concoctions first hand! I’ll surely bake a cake, might pour sour cherry slatko all over your ice cream, or accidentally drop a shot of (last year’s) liqueur in your lemonade. I’ll answer all your most important (sour cherry) questions and sign your Zurekersenhart book if you like.
